UNION Winter Futsal Academy

Baltimore Union SC will be holding a Futsal Academy this winter. We invite you to take part in this extensive introduction into the game. Please see below for all the details.

Introduction to Futsal
Futsal originated in Uruguay during the 1930’s and is the only ‘official’ form of indoor soccer according to FIFA. Teams consist 5v5 (including goalkeeper) and is played on a hard surface with boundaries, similar to that of a basketball court. Compared to other forms of indoor soccer there are no walls that can be used during the game and with a smaller and less bouncy ball being used; it enhances a player's technique and foot skills. Players from all over the world including Messi & Neymar have credited futsal in helping with their professional development. It is no coincidence that some of the best attacking players in world soccer originated from South America where Futsal is so popular. Futsal is a great skill developer as the game requires short sharp movements, accurate passing & quick reflexes. With the use of a heavier ball it also puts more emphasis on passing & striking technique. While in outdoor soccer you can get away with striking/passing the ball with the dreaded toe, due to heavier ball a strong technique is required when it comes to these skills. Futsal also has specific rules to help aid the game, such as four-second limit on all play restarts to help the game keep as fast paced and continuous as possible over our 6 week program we will focus on core futsal skills such as passing, dribbling, shooting and breaking down each skill step by step to achieve the correct technique.
