Baltimore Union Kick-Off Summer Camp

We’re excited to announce our Baltimore Union Club-Wide Kick-Off Summer Camp.

This camp open to all players in our Club as well as Non-Union players, tailored specifically by age and gender.

In past years, we’ve hosted separate Boys and Girls Camps during different weeks. Starting this season, we’re bringing the entire Club together for one unified event: a Club-Wide Camp that allows everyone to train during the same week, while still receiving personalized, age-appropriate instruction.

Although this is a single large event, players will be separated by gender and generally by age group, with sessions taking place across multiple high-quality turf sites. In many ways, it’s several focused camps running at the same time, all under the Union umbrella.

As part of your Club membership, all Baltimore Union players may attend at no charge if registered by July 1st. Players who register on or after July 1 will be required to use the Non-Union registration link and pay the standard $100 fee.

Whether you’re a high school player heading into your school season or a younger player preparing for your Union team camp in early August, four nights of competitive, high-energy training is the ideal preseason warm-up.

About Camp

Built for the Season Ahead

With most Union teams beginning in early August and high school players preparing to transition to their school programs, this four-night event is the perfect way to shake off the summer, re-engage with the game, and build momentum heading into the new season.

Each evening will feature a focused technical topic followed by match play. On the final night, we’ll hold skill-based competitions at each site to celebrate the week and the start of a new year.
While all players will benefit from four consecutive nights of training, we aim to maintain a true camp atmosphere centered on individual development.
To provide fresh perspectives and varied coaching styles, your trainer for the week will be different from your regular Union coach.
Campers will enjoy plenty of touches, energetic sessions, and a balance of fun and competition, everything you’d hope for in a strong preseason kick-off.

Camp Directors:

Union Executive Director: Coach Frank Assaro

Frank Assaro, Executive Director of Baltimore Union SC and current Varsity Coach at Calvert Hall College High School, is a USSF A Licensed Coach, USASA National Coach of the Year (2007), and National Champion with Calvert Hall, Baltimore Colts FC, and Baltimore Bays Chelsea. A Maryland Soccer Hall of Fame inductee, Frank is a former NCAA Division I player at Towson University where he was honored as part of the 1990 Hall of Fame Team of Distinction. Frank has served as a coach and scout for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy League.

Director of Coaching for Girls: Colin Devlin

Colin currently serves as the long-standing Head Coach at Maryvale Prep, where he has led the program to multiple IAMM titles and earned numerous accolades, including IAMM Coach of the Year, Maryland State High School Coach of the Year, and most recently, Baltimore Sun All-Metro Coach of the Year. He holds an NSCAA National Diploma and, as a youth, played for top clubs in Ireland, bringing a strong international perspective to his coaching.

Director of Coaching for Boys: Danny Kelly

Coach Kelly brings an exceptional playing and coaching pedigree to Baltimore Union. A standout at Penn State University, he was a four-year letter winner and still holds school records, including one for single-season assists. He began his professional career as the first-ever draft pick of the Harrisburg Heat, going on to a long and successful career with the Heat and Baltimore Blast, where he ranks among the all-time leaders in points. A three-time All-Star and U.S. futsal national team player, his jersey was retired by the Harrisburg Heat in 2012. As head coach of the Baltimore Blast, Kelly led the team to seven championship titles and was named Coach of the Year in 2009. His experience as both a player and coach makes him a tremendous asset to our camp coaching staff.

Camp Director: Matt Bailey

Matt Bailey, current coach of the Union 2014 Boys Elite team, was an NCAA Division I standout at the #1 ranked University of Pittsburgh, where he won an ACC Championship. Matt competed in the US Soccer Development Academy as a youth player. In his last youth match, he scored the opening goal in a 2-1 victory in the USYSA Maguire Cup U19 National Championship Final. Matt also played for DC United U23s and was a member of the US. National Team Pool at the U16 and U17 ages.
