Matt Ward Joins Baltimore Union Coaching Staff
Baltimore Union Soccer Club is proud to announce the addition of Matt Ward to its coaching staff, further strengthening the club’s commitment to developing players both on and off the field.
Ward brings an impressive background as both a player and coach. A standout central midfielder during his playing career, he earned All-League & All-Metro honors while competing for Archbishop Curley High School.
Known for his tireless work rate, creativity, and ability to control the tempo of a match, Ward went on to play NCAA Division I soccer at UMBC.
Following his playing career, Ward transitioned seamlessly into coaching, where he has spent the past 13 years contributing to the Varsity staff at Archbishop Curley. His experience, leadership, and passion for the game have made a lasting impact on the players he has worked with over the years.
At Baltimore Union, Ward will oversee the Girls U7, U8, and U9 age groups, working closely with the Girls Director of Coaching: Colin Devlin and the club’s current talented coaching staff to build a strong foundation for its youngest players.
Executive Director Frank Assaro shared his enthusiasm about the addition:
“I’ve known Matt since his playing days at Curley, and what always stood out to me was his proactive thinking on the field. He wasn’t just a hard worker, he understood tempo, space, and how to impact the game. That same approach carries over into his coaching. He has a great way of connecting with players and helping them learn the game the right way. Just as important, Matt is a great person and a role model to his players, exactly what we’re looking for at Baltimore Union.”
Ward’s commitment to player development and his deep understanding of the game will make him a tremendous asset to Baltimore Union.
